When Alfred Hitchcock released "Psycho" to audiences in 1960, nothing like it had ever been seen before. The level of suspense achieved in this film is unparalelled, and Anthony Perkins' gender-bending lead role was as groundbreaking at the time as it is relevant today. At the time of its release, Hitchock had to impose restrictions on theater's admission policies, as it was the norm to show up late to a movie and watch the beginning of the next show. Once "Psycho" had begun, no one was allowed admittance until the next screening of the film. This created quite a sensation among audiences of the time, which added to the mystique the film already carried.
